A healthy S4 will do everything you ask of it on GA-400 and still feel like it is keeping one hand behind its back. It is. Factory calibration has to survive bad fuel, cold starts, skipped services and a Gwinnett County August with the A/C on maximum, so the safety margin built into it is enormous. Solo Motorsports has worked that margin since 2003. Eight shops cover metro Atlanta, and the dyno, the fabrication bay and the race-prep bench are all in house rather than jobbed out to somebody else. Come in before you order parts. The sequence you buy them in decides what the finished car costs.
Quick Takeaways
- Software before hardware: on most turbocharged German cars a custom flash is the cheapest honest gain you will ever buy.
- The dyno is in the building: a load-bearing 4WD Mustang dynamometer of our own, good for 2WD and 4WD cars alike.
- Fuel decides the map: 93, 100, 110, race gas or E85 — pick the one you will actually run every week.
- Race prep is its own trade: AiM, VBOX and Mustang MD logging, drag cars past 200 mph, Time-Attack and series road racing.

Software Is the First Move and Usually the Best One
Start at the ECU. Boost, timing and fueling are software decisions on any turbo motor, and the factory left room in all three. We write a full flash to the controller instead of hanging a piggyback box off the sensor wiring, which works by intercepting network data and lying to the engine about it.
Off-the-shelf files are not a scam. They were simply developed on somebody else’s car. Yours has its own fuel trims, its own valve deposits and its own 61,000 miles of Perimeter traffic, and a map written on your car will hold timing where a generic file quietly starts pulling it back out.
Every Figure We Quote Came Off the Roller
The Mustang dynamometer here is load-bearing and 4WD, so a quattro Audi gets measured exactly the way a rear-drive 911 does. Baseline first. We log stock horsepower and torque, plot boost and air-fuel ratio against rpm across the whole pull, then apply road load so the engine feels the resistance it would meet on I-85 at 70 mph.
Then the parts go on and we pull it again, and you keep both graphs. Custom fuel work covers 93 pump gas through 100, 110 and race gas, plus E85 when the fuel system can feed it. Nitrous and water-methanol calibration happen here too. The techs reading those logs are ASE certified, and ASE certification must be renewed every five years.
Power You Cannot Put Down Is Just Noise
Grip and braking decide whether the tune feels fast or feels frightening. A 500-horsepower sedan on tired all-seasons is slower everywhere it counts and genuinely worse in the rain. So springs, dampers, bushings and alignment get sorted before anyone chases another 40 horsepower, and on plenty of cars the honest recommendation is tires rather than a bigger turbo.
Fitment matters. Offset changes scrub radius, a heavy wheel eats the acceleration you just paid for, and summer rubber on a 38-degree February morning in Alpharetta is a bad idea.
Race Prep Is a Different Job From a Street Map
Track cars get built, not just flashed. Logging runs through AiM, Mustang MD, VBOX and Bluetooth systems, graphing suspension and handling data next to driver inputs, engine data and weather, because lap time usually hides in corner exit. A licensed engineer is available.
The work spans sanctioned drag racing past 200 mph, Time-Attack and series-specific road racing. One shop-modified 996 Turbo won at WannaGoFast in Ocala, Florida. In September 2013 a Solo-tuned B5 Audi S4 2.7 twin-turbo built by Boris Jovanovic made 780 wheel horsepower and averaged 149.83 mph across ten half-mile runs at Heaven’s Landing in Clayton, Georgia, beating 157 entrants for Fastest Four Door.
When the Part Does Not Exist, We Make It
The fabrication bay welds all types of metal. Roll cages, engine manifolds, charge piping, mounting brackets — and, more than once, a modern engine dropped into a vintage chassis that never came with one. Nobody stocks that. When a purchased part misses by a quarter inch, it goes on the bench and gets corrected that week instead of holding your build hostage for a month.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where should I start if I want more power from my German car?
A baseline dyno pull and a conversation about fuel. Both take one visit, and together they tell you whether software alone gets you where you want to be or whether hardware has to come first.
Is a custom dyno tune worth the money over an off-the-shelf file?
On a modified car, yes. Fueling, air and boost get dialed in on your engine instead of a reference engine, and we can see knock activity and air-fuel ratio while it happens rather than guessing afterward.
Can you tune all-wheel-drive cars?
Yes. The Mustang dyno is a 4WD load-bearing unit, so quattro, 4MATIC, xDrive and ALL4 cars are measured under real load, not estimated from a front-roller pull.
Do you tune for E85 or race fuel in Georgia?
We write maps for 93, 100, 110, race gas and E85. Fuel choice is a commitment, though — a map built for E85 needs E85 in the tank every time you fill up.
Do I have to bring the car in to get it tuned?
Remote tuning is available, with the hardware coming from our online parts store. It works well for a stock or lightly modified car. Anything with serious hardware belongs on the roller.
