Getting Better Economy SMSTune & DPF Delete Benefits

DPF DELETE

Whether you’re an owner-operator or a fleet manager, it’s only natural to want your diesel engine vehicles to operate more effectively, more efficiently and for longer. That’s where Solo Motorsports’ SMSTune & specialized practices like DPF, or diesel particulate filter, delete can really pay dividends. Deleting the DPF can reduce maintenance costs, improve fuel economy and improve how effectively the engine works at Solo Motorsports we’re proud to offer our services on the most engine brands and models.

DPF PROBLEMS

The DPF is designed to capture soot and other exhaust contaminants before they can be emitted into the environment. Unfortunately, these filters are problematic – and for a variety of reasons. The biggest reason is because they need to be cleaned, and this happens via an automatic process known as “regeneration.” Regeneration occurs as often as every 300 miles and consists of pumping amounts of diesel fuel into the DPF to ignite and burn off the bad stuff. Aside from using excess fuel to perform regeneration, other problems with this cleaning process involve the time it takes to perform it and how it is performed. Specifically, the vehicle must be driving at 45 miles per hour or greater for things to get hot enough to work. Once it begins working, it can take up to 45 minutes to finish. Because of this, it often stops and starts – and this takes its toll on the engine and engine components. It’s possible to avoid these problems by upgrading to an aftermarket DPF. It’s easier, however, to just have it deleted altogether.

DPF BENEFITS

There are three key benefits associated with DPF delete: more engine power, better fuel economy, and reduced maintenance costs.

  • More power: After deleting the DPF, most owners report a better performing, faster responding engine.
  • Better fuel economy: Fuel economy is a big winner after deleting the DPF. Not only will a vehicle conserve the fuel that is utilized by the filter for regenerative purposes, but a cleaner running engine is also an engine that runs more efficiently.
  • Reduced maintenance: Time is money, and if your diesel engine vehicle is in the shop, it’s not making any money. Worst of all, it’s cutting into your bottom line. By eliminating the DPF, you’re not just likely saving on unexpected repair costs throughout the life of the engine, you’re also possibly extending its life.
